Problem with strays while walking your dogs???
I've had a bad problem with strays in my neighborhood, so walking the dogs is a pain... I've been thinking of what I can do to walk my dogs in peace, cuz they are dog aggressive and Mojo has knocked me off my bike trying to go after one before. But calling animal control doesn't seem to help, and I thought about getting a paintball gun, but they are bulky and most take two hands to shot... I thought of a teaser, but you have to get in point blank range to use it... This is TX, so a gun is not out of the question, but I don't want to kill them, I'm just not that cold hearted... Pepper spray / mace, depending on the wind, you can mess yourself up too... Then I got this e-mail from a friend in Cali, it's not about dogs, but it got me thinking... this might be what I can use... Heck I just bought a can the other day, and didn't need but about half a can to kill the wasp problem I had, so I still have another half a can I can test this out with... Tell me what do ya'll think??? E-Mail below:
I know some of you own GUNS but this is something to think about...
If you don't have a gun, here's a more humane way to wreck someone's evil plans for you. Did you know this? I didn't. I never really thought of it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.
Wasp Spray - A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection. She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.
The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote. She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.
On the heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self-defense experts have a tip that could save your life.
Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School. For decades, he's suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed.
Glinka says, "This is better than anything I can teach them."
Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says "spray the culprit in the eyes". It's a tip he's given to students for decades.
It's also one he wants everyone to hear If you're looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray. "That's going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out." Maybe even save a life.
Please share this with all the people who are precious to your life
Did you also know that wasp spray will kill a snake? And a mouse! It will! Good to know, huh? It will also kill a wasp!!!

Wow! Thanks I never would have thought about wasp spray.
Now as to the other, I don't worry about stray dogs when walking unless of course its 10lbs or less. LOL But otherwise my thought process is ya get what ya get. My dog is on a leash (4-6ft) and your dog wasn't. So I'm not the one at fault they are. None of my dogs are dog aggressive and don't normally react unless the other dog tries to posture up and get ugly.

Mine are a bit dog aggressive, and I know exactly what you mean about little dogs... those are my main problem, I swear those things are everywhere around here, like roaches. Mojo knocked me off my bike the other day because a datson went for him. I hate little dogs... big ones stay their distance but those little ankle biters are gutsy.

Oh I know and they literally jump right into your dog's mouth!!!! I often want to tell people if it squeeks like a toy keep your distance. Because my dogs will try to see how loud it does. Small dogs bring out the prey in a "prey dog" they make short jerky movements, and make high pitched noises. Of course their going to trigger some type of engagement. LOL
